Hello, readers! Today we competed in Bible Quizzing USA! Here are several comments written by some of our quizzers:

Hi, this is Brittany Burhead. I’m so excited to be here! I’ve looked forward to VUSA since sixth grade! This morning we’re competing in Bible Quizzing, and so far we’ve made it in the second (Bronze) round of quizzing. Our group has so much fun together. Trust me, there is never a dull moment! It’s great to have a group of wonderful Christian friends all together!

Hey, this is Steve-O Mandrillo! I had the opportunity to go to Omaha, Nebraska last year for Varsity USA. I dubbed that week one of my most enjoyed weeks on God’s great earth. Already within one day, I can honestly say this trip is going to blow that out of the water. Texas is my favorite state (aside from beautiful California)! It’s clean, green, friendly, and nice! (Not mean) In closing, I had the honor of getting a picture taken with the founder of AWANA: Art Rorheim. May God bless you all back home.

Howdy folks, this is Amy here. Today has been the best so far. After the COC team got to the silver round in Bible quizzing we all went to Sonic. Sonic is like a fast food restaurant only you order and then the employees ride out on roller skates with our food. While we were there, me and Brittany went inside and changed out of our Bible quiz clothes and into our outfits for the citation awards ceremony. The ceremony was wonderful. They made us sit in alphabetical order and the girl on my left was so extremely excited that she would not stop talking. The AWANA missionaries were lined up along either side of the wall. Things were done this way so when I walked onto the stage to receive my award we shook hands with the missionaries and the same when we returned to our seats. I did happen to notice that Pete was not there. After the ceremony we went to dinner in a Hummer limo which was provided by Becca’s grandmother. The dinner was great. We all had ribs which Jessica had for the first time. After dinner the limo took us back to the hotel and we spent the rest of the evening in the spa. I have been having a great time with the other team members especially the ones from CVCC, since this may be the last time visiting with them because of the change in their county. Well, I hope all is great at home.

PS: Forth Worth is really a great place. I could actually see myself living here.

This is Bev, mom, spectator. The kids are having a grand time. I wanted to make clear the final results of Bible Quizzing. We sent two quizzing teams. COC team 1 consisted of Brittany, Seth, Karl, Amy, and Kayla with Janel Burkhead as their coach. COC team 2 consisted of Jessica, Matt, Jody, Rebecca, and Jonathan coached by Tee Bowers. The COC 1 team received silver medals and COC team 2 received bronze pins. Both teams performed exceptionally well. Unless you’ve seen quizzing on the National level, you cannot begin to understand how tough this is and how well these kids did. We were very proud of them and they went through a series of elimination rounds to end up where they did. Thank you to all of you parents for making this possible for your children. They will remember this always.

Hello, this is Seth again. Today was one of the most enjoyable days of my life. In the early hours, we went to Varsity Bible Quizzing. This consists of four rounds: Participation, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Everyone participates in the Participation round (hence the catchy name). Those who survive that round move on to Bronze, and the survivors of Bronze move on to Silver, etc. One of our teams was eliminated in the Bronze round and got a nifty pin. The other one (mine) was eliminated in the Silver and got a shiny Silver medal. Part way through my team’s Bronze round, the fire alarms went off and a voice came on the PA system telling us that there was a fire emergency and we would have to evacuate, so we did. I wonder what the drivers on the small, two-lane road outside must have thought when they saw hundreds of funny looking, dressed up teens sprinting out of the buildings. Well, after a few minutes the fire engines appeared (blue and white ones). It turned out that there was no emergency at all, so we went back in and finished the round. After Bible Quizzing ended, we went for smoothies and then attended the Citation Award Ceremony. All four of our Citation winners (Jody, Brittany, Amy, and Steve) received their Citations from and had their pictures taken with the President and Founder of AWANA. For them, that moment was probably a major highlight. As we trudged out of the building after the ceremony, we noticed a long, mysterious hummer limo at the curb. Soon, we discovered that said limo was there for us! Naturally, we got very excited, and several of our number (I won’t mention who) began to hyperventilate. After piling in, we drove to the barbecue to eat “the best ribs in Texas.” That name was well chosen, because these were the best ribs I’ve ever eaten. When we finished, we returned to the hotel to spend the rest of the night lounging in the jacuzzi. Tomorrow are the Fine Arts competitions!
